West Bengal ByPolls 2024 TMC announces candidates List for assembly by-elections in Bengal

The Trinamool Congress has released the list of its four candidates for the upcoming West Bengal assembly bypolls. The four assembly seats that will be up for grabs next month are Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda, and Maniktala. These are among the 13 seats going to bypolls in July.

Raiganj: BJP turncoat Krishna Kalyani has been fielded from the Raiganj seat in Uttar Dinajpur district. A former BJP legislator, Kalyani won his first term as an MLA from Raiganj in the 2021 assembly elections, securing over 20,000 votes on a BJP ticket. However, in October of the same year, he switched to the TMC. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the TMC has fielded him as their candidate from Raiganj. Kalyani had earlier resigned from his MLA post to contest in the Lok Sabha elections on a TMC ticket. However, Kalyani could not win.

Ranaghat Dakshin: Mukut Mani Adhikari is another former BJP MLA fielded by the TMC. He joined the TMC earlier this year. He is contesting the Ranaghat Dakshin Assembly seat in Nadia district.

Bagda: The TMC has fielded Madhuparna Thakur as its candidate from the Bagda assembly seat in North 24 Parganas. She is the daughter of TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Bala Thakur.

Maniktala: The TMC is banking on Supti Pandey, the widow of Sadhan Pandey, to retain the Maniktala seat in Kolkata for the party. The seat fell vacant after his death.
