Saran Lok Sabha results Rajiv Pratap Rudy Rohini Acharya BJP RJD

Saran Lok Sabha results Rajiv Pratap Rudy Rohini Acharya BJP RJD

The Saran Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar is seeing an interesting contest where RJD candidate Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is trying to take on the family seat from BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy is looking for a third term in the seat, which was formed in 2008 after being carved out from Chhapra.

Voting was held in the seat on May 20, in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, while the results were announced along with all other 522 seats.

The seat was won by Lalu Prasad Yadav in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. Prior to that, when Saran was part of Chhapra, Lalu was elected as an MP from the Chhapra seat four times since 1977.

Saran has been a traditional Yadav bastion, but Rajiv Rudy defeated Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi in 2014. The BJP MP won the seat again in 2019 against Chandrika Roy of the RJD.

However, this time the RJD is hopeful for a comeback in the seat. In the 2020 assembly election, RJD got four seats – Maharaura, Garkha, Parsa and Sonepur – out of the total six assembly seats under Saran Lok Sabha seat.

Party supremo Lalu Yadav is campaigning for his daughter in the Lok Sabha constituency and has expressed hope that the BJP would be wiped from Saran. Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav has addressed three meeting in Sara during the Lok Sabha campaign.

Meanwhile, India Today-Axis My India exit poll has predicted that Rajiv Pratap Rudy will win the Saran for the third consecutive term in the seat.

BJP is trying to retain its 2019 performance in Bihar where the NDA alliance bagged 39 our of 40 seats. However, exit polls have predicted 34-38 seats for the NDA while the opposition INDIA alliance is expected to get 3-5 seats.
