    Narendra Modi was elected the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Committee at the coalition’s meeting held at the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday. Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of India on Sunday, June 9. Narendra Modi was welcomed into the Central Hall by the newly elected NDA MPs amid chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai [Hail Mother India]”.

    “Narendra Modi will take oath as Prime Minister of India for the third time at 6 PM on Sunday, June 9BJP MP from Dharwad Pralhad Joshi said at the meeting.

    Modi is likely to meet President Droupadi Murmu on Friday to stake claim to form the central government. 

    The meeting was attended by TDP and JD(U) chiefs Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar. 

    Among the attendees were the Chief Ministers of NDA parties, newly elected MPs, and presidents of parties.

    Modi’s name as the Parliamentary Party leader was proposed by Rajnath Singh, and seconded by Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan, HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, Apna Dal (S) Anupriya Patel. “This is the first time after 1962 that someone is going to take oath as the Prime Minister… We are lucky to have someone like PM Modi to lead us. His vision has helped the NDA grow manifolds… Hence I propose the name of Narendra Modi as the Parliamentary Party leader of the BJP and NDA and the leader of the Lok Sabha,” said Rajnath Singh.

    Nitish Kumar said that he wanted PM Modi to form the new government soon. “If possible, you should start the government today.” “Kisika idhar-udhar karne ka koi fayda nahi hai [There is no point in anyone trying to do any hanky panky],” he said in an apparent reference to the Opposition trying to woo him and Naidu.

    Narendra Modi’s third term as the Prime Minister comes after the NDA’s thumping 292-seat win in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The BJP alone won 240 seats.
