NDA Bags 30 Seats, I.N.D.I.A Bloc Wins 9, All Eyes On Nitish Kumar

Bihar Lok Sabha Election Results: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA won 30 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar while the I.N.D.I.A bloc  secured nine seats. NDA partners BJP and JD-U bagged 12 seats each, Chirag Paswan-led LJP-Ram Vilas (LJPRV) won five, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) got one seat. While the BJP lost its majority in the polls, which were announced on Tuesday, the alliance led by it easily passed the magic number of 272 seats.

Meanwhile, The allies of the opposition bloc RJD won four seats, Congress (3), and CPI-ML (2). Congress’ Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav secured the Purnea seat as an Independent candidate.

Chirag Paswan and his brother-in-law Arun Bharti defeated RJD candidates Shiv Chandra Ram and Archana Ravidas from Hajipur and Jamui respectively.

After the Lok Sabha mandate, all eyes are set on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after JDU bagged 12 seats. After reports emerged, earlier in the day, that the opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A has approached Kumar to make a comeback again to the alliance he initiated, sources confirmed later that the JD(U) chief is set to attend the NDA meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Kumar, whose party is set to grab 12 out of the state’s 40 seats, will be leaving for Delhi in the morning, PTI reported citing sources.

It is to be noted that Kumar recently visited Delhi during the weekend when he met top BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the saffron party falling far short of a majority, Kumar is being seen as a “kingmaker” whom the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc is also sending fillers.

Bihar Lok Sabha Election Results: Lalu Prasad Yadav’s One Daughter Wins, One Loses

Two members of Lalu Prasad’s family contested elections from Patliputra and Saran Lok Sabha constituencies. The former Bihar Chief Minister’s eldest daughter Misa Bharti contested from Patliputra and managed to defeat BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav in the third attempt — she lost against him in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

However, Lalu Prasad’s second daughter Rohini Acharya was defeated by sitting BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Saran by a narrow margin of 13,661 votes. This was Rudy’s third consecutive victory from Saran.

Bihar Lok Sabha Election Results: Purnea Seat Result

In Bihar, Purnea Lok Sabha seat was in focus. It witnessed a triangular contest between Pappu Yadav, RJD’s Bima Bharti and JD-U’s Santosh Kushwaha.

Pappu Yadav, who recently merged his party (JAP) in Congress, contested as an Independent candidate as he was adamant to contest from Purnea but the constituency went to the RJD after the seat-sharing agreement between the partners of the opposition bloc. Yadav bagged the Purnea seat with a margin of 23,847 votes defeating JD-U’s Kushwaha. Bharti came on third.

In Karakat, Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh faced defeat against CPI-ML candidate Rajaram Singh Kushwaha by a margin of 1,05,858 votes.
