There isn’t much at stake for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 anymore, yet it would have helped to watch some potentially entertaining batting from the fiery opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, something that won’t come true tonight.
At the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the Pat Cummins-led SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first.
While SRH brought in reinforcements in the name of Atharva Taide on the bench, they have promoted Ishan Kishan to the top of the order.
LSG, on the other hand, has also brought in a new member, handing NZ pacer William O’Rourke his IPL debut tonight.
Unfortunately, Head has been omitted from the SRH’s Playing XI for their clash against LSG tonight, as the Aussie batter caught COVID-19.
According to the team’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, the left-handed batter recently tested positive for COVID-19, and because of that, he was unable to travel with the team.
“He had COVID-19, and unfortunately, he couldn’t travel," Vettori told reporters on Sunday (May 18). “We’re hopeful of having him back for the next game once he’s fully recovered and cleared to join the squad."
Sunrisers are already out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race, but if they manage to beat the Rishabh Pant-led side on Monday, then LSG will also get knocked out of the top-four race.
The Sunrisers will want to see some performances from their Indian stars like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Reddy and Abhishek Sharma at the very least to stand a chance in getting the two points.

For the hosts, the spotlight will be on the skipper, Rishabh Pant, who has been out of form for the entire tournament. Some runs from his bat will be a big positive with regards to his future with the franchise.
In addition, it will be interesting to witness what the New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke could do for the Lucknow side, after he had been announced as the injury replacement for Mayank Yadav.
