Shaik Rasheed, young 20-year-old cricketer, from Andhra Pradesh’s Gunter, made his debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL on Monday against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The young batter opened along with Rachin Ravindra and contributed 27 runs off 19 balls.
Rasheed started his cricketing journey from his home state and he made his first-class debut in 2022. Since then, he has played in 19 games, scoring 1,204 runs at an average of 37.62. His record includes two 100s and seven 50s, with an outstanding 203 in the Ranji Trophy’s 2024–25 season.
In the T20 format, Rasheed has featured in 17 matches, hitting 352 runs at an average of 29.33. His talent in the shortest format was on full display when he became the second-youngest player from India to score a T20 century.
On the international stage, Rasheed gained recognition as the vice-captain of India’s Under-19 team that clinched the 2022 World Cup title. He scored 201 runs across four matches at an average of 50.25 in the tournament, including a crucial 94-run knock in the semi-final clash against Australia.
Following his selection by CSK in the 2023 IPL auction, Rasheed patiently awaited his opportunity. He finally made his debut against the Lucknow Super Giants two years later on Monday night.
Rasheed said, “I am so happy to get a chance after two years. I played really well… Thank you to all the supporters for backing me from the very beginning. You’ve not stopped supporting CSK; it’s very humbling for all of us in the team. Thank you all.”
India’s MSME map has been redrawn with higher thresholds. Will this scale-focused reform widen opportunity or unintentionally sideline the smallest in the ecosystem? With classification boundaries redrawn, the impact on India’s business landscape is under close scrutiny.
