NEW DELHI: Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav produced a breakthrough performance at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo on Thursday, finishing fourth in the men’s javelin final with a personal best throw of 86.27 metres. The 25-year-old from Khekra, Uttar Pradesh outperformed renowned Asian rivals Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem, who ended eighth and tenth respectively.Yadav made an instant impression with his very first attempt, which stood as his best throw of the competition. He had earlier reached the final after registering 80.16m and 83.67m in the qualifying round, finishing tenth overall.

Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches, Yadav’s sporting journey began with dreams of becoming a fast bowler before he switched to javelin at 19. He idolises former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, whose determination inspired his rise in athletics.In the lead-up to the Worlds, Yadav had clinched silver at the Asian Championships and struck gold at the 38th National Games in Dehradun, where he set a meet record with an 84.39m throw. He also recorded a fourth-place finish at the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic, producing an effort of 82.33m.Competing alongside stalwarts Chopra and Nadeem, Yadav exceeded expectations in what many had billed as an India-Pakistan duel, firmly announcing his arrival on the world stage with a career-best performance.
