Digvesh Rathi, the right-arm spinner, made a big name for himself in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The 25-year-old became the lead spin bowler for LSG in his debut season of the IPL, showcasing how much he evolved as a player in just over two months, and now, he continued the trend of exceptional performances in what seemed like a local T20 league match, picking up five wickets in five consecutive balls.

The video of the Digvesh Rathi exploits was shared by LSG on their official X account wherein he bamboozled the batters with his googly one after another, cleaning up the stumps of the first four before trapping one lbw. The youngster didn’t celebrate the wickets at all, making it seem as if it is something he did regularly with the ball, but then again, taking five wickets in a row rarely happens for the best of bowlers.
It was a stark contrast to his time at LSG in the IPL 2025, in which whenever Digvesh Rathi took a wicket, he brought out his infamous “notebook celebration”, getting fined on several occasions before being banned for one match. He ended up taking 14 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 30.64 in his debut IPL season, while his economy was 8.22, which is exceptional as per the current standards of the tournament.

Although the performances of Digvesh Rathi wasn’t enough for LSG to make the IPL 2025 playoffs, finishing in seventh place with six wins and eight losses to their name in 14 matches with an NRR of (-0.376). It will be interesting to see the career trajectory of this spin bowler in regards to whether he ends up knocking the Indian door ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka in February and March.
