Takoma Park Police are warning the community about a TikTok trend that encourages people to kick in the doors of homes and businesses.
On Monday, officers said the “door-kicking challenge” is not isolated to Takoma Park, and reports suggest the trend happening in cities across the country.
The activity puts properties and people at risk, and officers said the challenge constitutes as a misdemeanor crime in Maryland.

The penalty for malicious destruction of property depends on the extent and value of the damage and can range from 60 days in jail and a $500 fine to three years in jail and a $2,500 fine, according to officers.
