NFL reporter goes viral for hilariously calling Travis Kelce ‘Travis Scott’ after Chiefs’ win: Patrick Mahomes’ reaction to it is unmissable | NFL News
The Kansas City Chiefs cruised to a 28-7 win over the Washington Commanders on Monday night, but the story didn’t end when the clock hit zero. Tight end Travis Kelce tied the franchise record for career regular-season touchdowns, and ESPN’s Lisa Salters accidentally called him “Travis Scott” while interviewing quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the game. Mahomes brushed off the slip and carried on with the conversation, while Kelce’s milestone and postgame comments became the real talking points.
Salters’ name mix-up draws laughs after the game
Following the win, Salters caught up with Mahomes for ESPN’s postgame interview. While talking about Kelce’s milestone, she accidentally referred to the tight end as rapper Travis Scott. Mahomes didn’t correct her and calmly continued answering questions. Salters said, “Travis Scott tied the touchdown record. He told me before the game what it would mean to him.” Mahomes, unfazed, gave his thoughts and moved right along with the conversation.
Chiefs start slow before Kelce helps turn things around
The night didn’t start smoothly for Kansas City. Kelce’s early fumble led to Washington’s first takeaway, and Mahomes threw his third interception of the season soon after. But the Chiefs regrouped after halftime. About four minutes into the third quarter, Mahomes hit Kelce near midfield, and the veteran tight end weaved through defenders for a 38-yard gain. Eight minutes later, the two linked up again — this time for a 10-yard touchdown inside the red zone. That score gave Kelce 83 career regular-season touchdowns, tying former running back Priest Holmes for the most in team history.
Kelce reflects on his future and appreciation for the game
Later on SportsCenter, Kelce joined Scott Van Pelt, who congratulated him on joining some of the all-time great tight ends. Van Pelt then brought up the ongoing questions about Kelce’s future and possible retirement. “Recognizing that not a whole lot of runway is left, right? It’s important, isn’t it, to maintain your spot right here.”Kelce said, “100% man. I see my guy Zach Ertz out here today. We both came in 2013, tight ends baby, I love Zach forever man, he had a helluva run in Philly over there and he’s still doing today man… We are cherishing every single one of these games, man, not knowing how long we’ll be able to do this.”With nine games still to play, Kelce has a strong chance to move past Holmes and stand alone atop the Chiefs’ touchdown leaderboard. Through eight games, he’s logged 37 catches on 48 targets for 474 yards and three scores, helping Kansas City improve to 5-3 on the season. Also read: NFL fans erupt with laughter as Travis Kelce’s daring “creamsicle” outfit becomes instant meme material on MNF
