LSG vs DC Live Score and Updates
Right then, Delhi Capitals started the evening in second place and have stayed there after the win, but are now level on points with GT, both teams inching towards sealing a playoff berth. With the season just over the halfway mark, every game starts to become more and more crucial. Next up, it is Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on an in-form Mumbai Indians side in Hyderabad. That game will be played on Wednesday, 23 April and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). You can also tune in a lot earlier to our build-up to that game. Cheers!
Mukesh Kumar is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his four-fer in the first innings. Mukesh says that he found it fun to bowl on this wicket. Adds that when he came in to bowl his 2nd over, he talked to Mitchell Starc and Dushmantha Chameera and the focus was to bowl a bit fuller and vary the pace. Mentions that he was always in talks with the skipper, who also gave him information on what to bowl. Adds that the wicket of Mitchell Marsh was probably the biggest one, as he was set and it was crucial that he got him out. Ends by saying that this is the kind of performance he tried to put on in the earlier matches but it didn’t happen until tonight and he is very happy about it.
Axar Patel, the victorious captain of Delhi Capitals says the way they came back with the ball was special. Mentions that he was giving himself time to recover from the finger injury but since it is now fixed, and with the kind of rhythm he was in, he bowled all four overs on the trot up front. Mentions that he looked at a few matchups, keeping in mind the dimensions and playing on the minds of the batters with all his bowling changes. States that he plays according to the situation and keeps his thoughts clear as to what is needed and which bowler to target. Concludes that as a unit, they will have to improve the fielding.
The Presentation ceremony…
Abishek Porel, one of DC’s standout batters in this game, is down for a chat. He says that he planned to make full use of the Powerplay and after that, he tried to use the big gaps on this particular ground and go after the right deliveries. On his partnership with KL Rahul, Porel says that KL told him that it was a matter of 1-2 overs and keeping the dot balls to a minimum was the main thing, as they had the prowess to make up the boundaries later on.
Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, reflects on the game. He says they knew they were at least 20 runs short and the toss plays a crucial role at this venue. Adds that they had to stay in the hunt for as long as they could but the conditions got better in the second innings but that can never be an excuse. Talks about the Impact Substitute and says they are trying to fit Mayank Yadav back in who has just returned from the NCA. Says they will have to figure things out and regroup heading into the next game.
Earlier in the game, Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field first on a track that might have had something in it early for the bowlers. However, given the rich vein of form the LSG openers are, they got off to another solid start, mustering up 87 runs in the first 10 overs when Aiden Markram got out after breaching the 50-run mark. This triggered a mini collapse as Mitchell Starc and Mukesh Kumar ripped through the LSG top order. Ayush Badoni led a mini fightback, but Mukesh Kumar and the DC bowlers overall closed out things well, restricting LSG to an under-par total.
A second loss in the last three games after winning three on the trot and Lucknow Super Giants are seriously hampering their chances of securing a playoffs spot. Their NRR was already the lowest of all those teams on 10 points, and they have now played 9 matches, whereas others around them have played 8. Shardul Thakur bowled a loose first over, allowing DC to start strongly, and even after Aiden Markram picked up a wicket, LSG couldn’t build on it. Markram then came back in the middle phase to get another wicket but it was already a bit too late and the home side were beaten comprehensively. Avesh Khan bowled well and so did Digvesh Singh but Ravi Bishnoi and Shardul Thakur were off colour.
A win that was set up brilliantly in the first innings. DC fought back hard with the ball and have now been clinical with the bat as well. Karun Nair and Abishek Porel started quickly, notching up 15 runs off the first over, but Nair soon departed. KL Rahul joined Porel at the crease and the pair put on a 69-run stand with Porel picking up his first half century of the season. Once he departed, Rahul continued to anchor the innings as Axar Patel took on the spinners and killed any hopes of an LSG comeback then and there. Rahul went on to score yet another Fifty and even brought up 5000 runs in IPL as DC cruised to the win.
DELHI CAPITALS ARE BACK TO WINNING WAYS! DC complete the double over Lucknow Super Giants and join Gujarat Titans at the summit of the points table with their 6th win of the season.
17.5: Prince Yadav to KL Rahul, SIX! A fitting way to wrap the game. Delhi Capitals win by 8 wickets and 13 balls to spare! Prince Yadav bangs it into the deck, on a back of a length, over middle. It sits up nicely for KL who pulls it over mid-wicket for six run.
17.4: Prince Yadav to Axar Patel, Full and on middle and leg, Axar Patel drives it dead stright to the right of long on for a single.
17.3: Prince Yadav to KL Rahul, Very full, on off, KL Rahul drills it to long on for a single. Gets to 5000 runs in the IPL. And becomes the fastest to reach there, beating David Warner’s previous record.
17.2: Prince Yadav to Axar Patel, Back of a length, over middle, Axar Patel nails the pull but straight to deep mid-wicket for one.
17.1: Prince Yadav to KL Rahul, FIFTY for KL Rahul! This reinvented version of Rahul is turning into a massive asset for the Delhi Capitals. Another top-notch knock, anchoring the chase with maturity and precision. His third this season and 40th in the IPL. Fuller than a length, on middle, KL Rahul tucks it to mid-wicket and scampers through for a quick run.
16.6: Digvesh Singh to Axar Patel, The wrong’un, outside off, Axar Patel looks to cut but misses. Delhi Capitals need 9 more runs off 18 balls.
16.5: Digvesh Singh to Axar Patel, SIX! BANG! Slightly overpitched by Digvesh Singh, on middle and leg, Axar Patel clubs it way over cow corner for a biggie.
16.4: Digvesh Singh to KL Rahul, Full, on off, KL Rahul cuts it square on the off side for a single.
16.3: Digvesh Singh to Axar Patel, DROPPED by Prince Yadav! Just sums up this game for LSG! Short and outside off, Axar Patel looks to power it through the off side with a slice but gets an outside edge that goes to the left of short third. Prince settles under it and tries to take a reverse cup, but the ball just pops out of his hand. Single taken.
16.2: Digvesh Singh to KL Rahul, Drops it very short and on off, KL cuts it to deep point for a single.
