IPL 2025: Why Is The LSG Vs RCB Match In Lucknow Cancelled?- News18 – News18

The match 59 of the IPL 2025 season between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scheduled for Friday, May 9, at 7:30 pm IST, Lucknow, will not go ahead as planned. The season was suspended midway through for one week due to security concerns in the war-like situation between India and Pakistan, and the remaining twelve league matches and four knockout games stand temporarily cancelled.
Tensions rose between the countries after India launched missile attacks on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a fortnight after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. On Thursday, a blackout was enforced in several districts in India amid air raid alarms and reports of explosion-like sounds in Jammu, as cross-border shelling and drone attacks intensified.
Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, about 60 kilometres from the border, had to be called off midway through the first innings. The players and crew were safely evacuated, and the crowd was escorted out of the ground as well.
BCCI arranged an emergency meeting on Thursday morning and decided to suspend the season temporarily. The LSG-RCB clash, like other remaining matches, will be held at a later date which will be announced by the board in due course.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," the BCCI said in a statement.

“The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders," the board added.
RCB are currently placed second in the points table, only one win away from securing qualification in top four. LSG are seventh and one loss away from being eliminated from the playoffs race.
