The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is currently underway, with all 10 teams having completed at least four or five games. With each game carrying crucial points, the competition for the top four spots remains intense. Teams will be looking for consistency and improving their net run rate (NRR) to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Punjab Kings finally broke their home drought in Dharamsala with a solid 37-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in a high-scoring IPL 2025 clash. Batting first, PBKS posted a huge total of 236/5, thanks to a stunning knock of 91 off 48 balls by Prabhsimran Singh. Captain Shreyas Iyer chipped in with a quick 45, while Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis gave the perfect finish with blazing cameos.
In reply, LSG had a terrible start as Arshdeep Singh removed Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran early, finishing with brilliant figures of 3/16. Azmatullah Omarzai also chipped in with two big wickets of Rishabh Pant and David Miller to push Lucknow further behind. Abdul Samad (45 off 24) and Ayush Badoni (74 off 40) fought hard but the target proved too steep. LSG finished on 199/7 in 20 overs, falling well short.
Here’s a look at the updated points table after the PBKS vs LSG match:
Orange Cap: Virat Kohli (RCB) — 505 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 143.46.
Purple Cap: Prasidh Krishna (GT) – 19 wickets in 10 innings at an economy of 7.48.
The final IPL 2024 league standings saw eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finish on top with 20 points from 14 matches, thanks to 9 wins, 3 losses, and 2 no-results. They were followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), both with 17 points, securing second and third positions respectively.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) completed a remarkable turnaround to clinch the fourth playoff spot. They won five matches in a row to finish with 14 points and edging out Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), all of whom also ended with 14 points but had inferior NRRs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered due to two no-results and a poor NRR, finishing 8th with 12 points, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) rounded out the bottom two.
