The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is currently underway, with all 10 teams having completed at least four or five games. With each game carrying crucial points, the competition for the top four spots remains intense. Teams will be looking for consistency and improving their net run rate (NRR) to stay in contention for the playoffs.
The latest fixture of IPL 2025 witnessed Delhi Capitals hammer Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium with more than two overs to spare to complete a season double against Rishabh Pant’s men.
Pacer Mukesh Kumar led the way with a haul of 4/33 that later earned him the Player of the Match award while KL Rahul top-scored for the Capitals with an unbeaten 57 in his first appearance in Lucknow since his less-than-friendly exit from the Super Giants last year.
Rahul went past 5,000 IPL runs during his knock, becoming the eighth overall in the league and the fastest to the milestone, breaking the record previously held by David Warner.
Here’s a look at the updated points table after the LSG vs DC match:
Orange Cap: Sai Sudharsan (GT) — 417 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 152.18.
Purple Cap: Prasidh Krishna (GT) – 16 wickets in 8 innings at an economy of 7.29
The final IPL 2024 league standings saw eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finish on top with 20 points from 14 matches, thanks to 9 wins, 3 losses, and 2 no-results. They were followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), both with 17 points, securing second and third positions respectively.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) completed a remarkable turnaround to clinch the fourth playoff spot. They won five matches in a row to finish with 14 points and edging out Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), all of whom also ended with 14 points but had inferior NRRs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered due to two no-results and a poor NRR, finishing 8th with 12 points, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) rounded out the bottom two.
