The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is nearing its end, with the league phase now complete, as all 10 teams have finished their 14 games. Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians have secured the top four spots, with PBKS finishing first and RCB taking the second position.
In the final game of the season, RCB beat LSG to seal their place in Qualifier 1. Chasing 228 to win, RCB got off to a good start with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli scoring quick runs. Kohli looked in great touch and smashed 54 off just 30 balls. But after he got out, it looked like LSG might pull things back. However, stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma had other plans.
The RCB captain played a stunning knock, smashing an unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls. He finished the match in style with a six as RCB reached the target in just 18.4 overs with 6 wickets in hand.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted a massive total of 227/3. Rishabh Pant was the star with the bat, scoring a brilliant 118 not out off 61 balls. Mitchell Marsh also played a strong hand with 67 off 37 balls. But their bowling couldn’t defend the total. None of the LSG bowlers were able to stop the RCB batters, especially Jitesh and Mayank Agarwal, who added a match-winning partnership.
Here’s a look at the updated points table after the RCB vs LSG match:
Orange Cap: Sai Sudharsan (GT) — 679 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 155.37.
Purple Cap: Noor Ahmad (CSK) – 24 wickets in 14 innings at an economy of 8.16.
The final IPL 2024 league standings saw eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finish on top with 20 points from 14 matches, thanks to 9 wins, 3 losses, and 2 no-results. They were followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), both with 17 points, securing second and third positions respectively.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) completed a remarkable turnaround to clinch the fourth playoff spot. They won five matches in a row to finish with 14 points and edging out Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), all of whom also ended with 14 points but had inferior NRRs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered due to two no-results and a poor NRR, finishing 8th with 12 points, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) rounded out the bottom two.
