Gujarat Titans’ (GT) loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday has left the door wide open for three other teams Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Mumbai Indians to secure a coveted top-two finish in the points table. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will battle in Qualifier 1, giving them two chances to reach the final.
The teams finishing third and fourth will clash in the Eliminator, with the loser getting knocked out of the tournament.
With GT completing their league campaign at 18 points, their top-two finish is no longer in their hands. In this article, here’s what the remaining contenders need to do to secure their spot in the top two.
Next Match: vs MI, Jaipur (Match 69)
PBKS find themselves in a strong position heading into their final group-stage match. A win against MI on Monday will take them to 19 points, guaranteeing them a top-two finish.
If PBKS wins: Finishes in the top two (Qualifies for Qualifier 1).
If PBKS loses: Stays on 17 points and will play in the Eliminator as either the third or fourth-placed team, depending on NRR and other results.
Next Match: vs LSG, Lucknow (Match 70)
RCB, currently third, can also qualify for Qualifier 1 with a win against LSG in their final fixture. A victory will take them to 19 points, ensuring a top-two finish.
If RCB wins: Finishes in the top two (Qualifies for Qualifier 1).
If RCB loses: Remains on 17 points and heads into the Eliminator.
If both PBKS and RCB win their matches, they will take the top two spots, pushing GT and MI into the Eliminator.
Next Match: vs PBKS, Jaipur (Match 69)
Mumbai Indians are on the edge with 16 points and one game left. A win over PBKS will take them to 18 points, putting them in contention for the second spot, depending on the outcome of RCB’s match.
If MI wins and RCB loses: MI moves to 18 points and likely finishes second behind GT (depending on NRR).
If MI loses or RCB wins: MI misses out on the top two, plays in the Eliminator.
