Delhi Congress To Contest Upcoming Assembly Elections Independently Devender Yadav AAP

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav announced on Tuesday that the party will contest the upcoming assembly elections independently, as their alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was limited to the Lok Sabha polls. This declaration was made during a meeting with the office-bearers of the Krishna Nagar district Congress Committee at Preet Vihar.

Yadav highlighted the significant increase in the Congress’ vote share in the recent Lok Sabha elections, attributing it to a renewed enthusiasm among party workers and the general public, news agency PTI reported. He expressed confidence that this momentum would translate into a strong performance in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, as people are now seeking change.

“After the Congress’ vote share went up substantially in the recent Lok Sabha elections, there is renewed enthusiasm among the workers and general public that the party will perform better in the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls as people now look for change,” Yadav claimed, as quoted by PTI.

During the meeting, Yadav emphasised the importance of block and district Congress committee meetings in revitalising party workers. He believes this grassroots activation will be crucial in strengthening the party at the booth level and ultimately bringing the Congress back to power in Delhi.

“The block and district Congress committee meetings have activated and rejuvenated the workers to strengthen the party at the booth level and will bring back the Congress to power in the Delhi Assembly,” he stated.

Increased Congress Vote Share In LS Polls Clear Indication They Want Party To Fight Assembly Elections Alone: Delhi Congress Chief

Addressing the workers, Yadav reiterated that the Congress will contest the upcoming elections independently, as the alliance with AAP was only for the Lok Sabha elections. He pointed to the increased vote share in the Lok Sabha polls as evidence of the public’s desire for the Congress to go it alone in the assembly elections.

“The people’s support for the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections was clear when the party got an increased vote share. This was a clear indication that people want the Congress to fight the assembly elections alone,” he added, as per PTI.

Yadav also criticised the current government for various issues plaguing Delhi residents, including water shortages, power tariff hikes, waterlogging, and water theft. He accused the government of making excuses instead of addressing these problems.

He announced that all district Congress committees would hold demonstrations against the Delhi government over the nearly nine per cent increase in power tariffs by Discoms. These protests will be conducted at over 50 locations across Delhi.

Yadav called on Delhi residents to join the Congress demonstrations in large numbers, emphasising that the party is fighting for consumer rights.

“We appeal to the people of Delhi to join the Congress demonstration in thousands as the party is fighting for the cause of the consumers,” Yadav urged.

The remark is significant as the Congress and the AAP fought the recent Lok Sabha elections together under the I.N.D.I.A. bloc. Nevertheless, the BJP still managed to register a clean sweep in the capital.
