CSK Sink To All-Time Low, Finish Bottom For First Time In IPL History – Cricket.com

For the first 15 seasons of their existence in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had not finished at the bottom of the points table even once. Prior to IPL 2025, CSK were the only ‘OG’ IPL team to never have finished at the very bottom of the table.
However, that record is in the past now as for the first time in IPL history, the Super Kings have finished at the bottom of the table, bagging the wooden spoon after failing to beat Gujarat Titans by a 110-run margin at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
For a while, the ‘dream’ was on for CSK as GT were teetering at 110/7. CSK needed to bowl GT under 122 to ensure that they leapfrogged Rajasthan Royals (RR) and finished ninth.
However, a 15-run over from Deepak Hooda ensured that GT went past the 122-run mark, and thereby handed CSK their first ever wooden spoon.
Still, the horror season ended on a high for CSK as they hammered the table toppers by 83 runs. They won the toss, batted first and put up 230 on the board – their fourth-highest total in IPL ever – and then bowled the Titans out for 147.
By beating GT, CSK have done a huge favour to all of MI, PBKS and RCB. While RCB will seal the top two by beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the winner of PBKS-MI on May 26 (Monday) is now guaranteed to finish in the top two.
