In the run-up to the Assembly Elections in Delhi, the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) is likely to meet in the next few days to decide the first list of candidates.
The CEC meeting is likely to take place in 2-3 days where the party will finalise the candidates for around 24 seats, sources said.
The sources further said that Sandeep Dikshit is likely to contest from Babarpur, Alka Lamba from New Delhi, Devendra Yadav from Badli and Abhishek Dutt from Kasturba Nagar.
Meanwhile, Mudit Aggarwal is likely to be fielded from Chandni Chowk, Rohit Chaudhary from Nangloi, Ali Mehdi from Mustafabad and Ishrat Jahan from Okhla.
The announcement from Congress comes shortly after the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday released its second list of 20 candidates for Delhi, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and renowned educator Avadh Ojha. Sisodia will now contest from Jangpura, while Avadh Ojha, an educator and recent AAP entrant, will contest from Sisodia’s current Patparganj seat
The Congress, which governed Delhi from 1998 to 2013, drew consecutive blanks in the 2015 and the 2020 polls. Elections to the 70-member House are due in February.
The party also recently launched Delhi Nyay Yatra in the national capital, along the lines of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
The Delhi Nyay Yatra was launched on November 8 from Rajghat by Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav and concluded on Saturday.
