    Preparations for the assembly elections are going on in full swing in Jharkhand. Voting will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, while the results will be announced on November 23. Due to this, ‘dry day’ has been declared for three days in the state capital Ranchi. Here, the sale of liquor will be completely banned on the days of polling and counting i.e. November 13, 20 and 23.

    The campaigning for the first phase of elections in Jharkhand stopped on Monday, November 11. In the first phase, voting will be held on 43 seats in the state. Voting will be done on these seats on November 13. The fate of 683 candidates will be decided in this phase.

    Jharkhand Polls: 73 Women In Fray

    Out of the 43 seats in the first phase, six are reserved for SC and 20 for ST. The number of general seats is 17. There are 87 candidates of national parties, 32 from recognised political parties of Jharkhand, 42 from recognised parties of other states and 188 from unrecognized registered parties contesting the seats in phase-1 of the Jharkhand Assembly polls.

    Apart from this, there are 334 independent candidates. The fate of 73 women candidates will also be decided in the first phase. There is also a third-gender candidate in this phase. A total of 15,344 booths have been set up on these seats, where the fate of a total of 683 candidates contesting the election will be decided by a total of 1,37,10,717 voters. The total voters in the first phase include 68,73,455 men, 68,36,959 women, and 303 registered under the third-gender category.

    When Is Dry Day Observed?

    There are many reasons to observe dry days in India. Dry days are often observed on occasions related to national festivals and religious festivals. On national festivals, liquor shops are closed to honour soldiers, martyrs, freedom fighters and religious festivals.

    Apart from this, dry days are declared in a city or state due to law and order. Similarly, when elections are held in any region, a dry day is declared keeping in mind the law and order situation. The list of dry days varies in every state.
