Apple Inc. is planning to launch a new proprietary application named Passwords at its Apple Worldwide Developers Conference Event (WWDC) 2024 next week. The Passwords app, which is slated to launch on June 10, is designed to simplify the process of logging into websites and software for Apple’s users, says a report by news agency Bloomberg.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who quoted anonymous sources, the company plans to introduce the new app as part of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, the next major updates for its iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems. Apple’s Proprietary Passwords App To Use iCloud Keychain
Currently, the tech giant lets users store passwords across their iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro headset through iCloud Keychain. The new application will also leverage iCloud Keychain, an Apple service that syncs passwords and account information across multiple devices.
Previously, this functionality was accessible through the settings app or appeared during website logins.

According to Gurman, Apple intends to encourage the use of secure passwords and enhance device privacy, by creating a standalone app. This move is also the iPhone maker’s bid to increase competition with third-party password managing services such as LastPass and 1Password.
This year’s WWDC conference is said to shed light on Apple’s evolving artificial intelligence (AI) strategy as competitors like Google and Samsung have made significant strides in integrating AI capabilities into their products.
Rumours suggest that AI will feature prominently in Apple’s announcements, with enhancements expected across various services, including Siri, the company’s virtual assistant. Reports indicate that Siri is set to receive a generative AI upgrade, potentially bringing it on par with competitors like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
iOS 18, iPadOS 18, More Software Expected
In addition to AI advancements, Apple is anticipated to unveil updates to its operating systems, including iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. These updates are rumoured to introduce a slew of new features, ranging from interface enhancements to improved communication services. Developers and tech enthusiasts alike can expect updates to macOS, watchOS, and visionOS, the operating system powering Apple’s Vision Pro headset. These updates are poised to offer users enhanced functionalities and experiences across multiple devices.
