Ahead Of Elections AAP Blames BJP, Congress Turns On INDIA Partner

The crime rate in Delhi is seemingly going up by the day, with 10 murders committed out in the open in just a week. The alarming situation comes with just around three months left for the Delhi Assembly elections; and this has given fodder to both the primary Opposition parties in Delhi. However, in a surprising twist, the Congress has turned its guns on Arvind Kejriwal instead of the BJP.

The alarming crime rate in Delhi has now set the tone for the upcoming Assembly elections with the Aam Aadmi Party hanging on to the issue and demanding that the Centre rectify the situation. The Delhi Police, unlike in states, is directly controlled by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under Amit Shah. As such, it is the Centre’s responsibility to check the rising crime in the Union Territory.

    Murders In Delhi

There have been 11 murders in prominent areas of Delhi in the past eight days. One among the victims was a cop. On Novemebr 30, head constable Azad Akhtar of the Delhi Police was stabbed to death by a criminal and his aides.

On December 1, three murders occurred in Delhi. In the afternoon, a 38-year-old delivery agent was stabbed in the Prashant Vihar area of North-West Delhi. The man’s wallet and other valuables were not touched. Earlier the same day, a man was found under the Geeta Colony flyover with stab wounds all over his face, neck, and head. The third victim was stabbed at a park in the Naraina area by a group over personal animousity.

On December 2, a 19-year-old was shot dead in Mangolpuri over a petty argument.

On December 4, a triple-murder was committed in the Neb Sarai area. Then on Friday, December 6, Delhi saw a man allegedly kill his mother over a marriage dispute. And two murders — one in Govindpuri and another in Shahdara — on Saturday raised the heat in Delhi.

    ‘Jungle Raj In Delhi’

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the failure to stop crimes in Delhi. He said businessmen were being openly threatened for extortion money and the police could do nothing.

On Saturday, he said: “Amit Shah has ruined Delhi. He has brought jungle raj to Delhi. People are living in terror everywhere. BJP is no longer able to handle the law and order situation in Delhi. The people of Delhi will have to unite and raise their voice.”

AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said, “The only work that the BJP has to do in Delhi is to look after law & order. There are murders, extortions and such crimes are getting common in Delhi every day. We are raising these issues but the BJP says that everything is fine. If they don’t acknowledge the problem, how will they find a solution?”

    Congress Targets INDIA Partner AAP

The Congress, however, has taken a different route to highlight the crimes in Delhi. It has not targeted the BJP. Rather it targeted the AAP over its promise of installing CCTV. Congress leader Sandeep Dixit said that Arvind Kejriwal had failed in his promise to “fix the law and order situation”. “What happened to his promise of installing CCTVs? Show me one case that has been caught on CCTV cameras fixed by the AAP government,” Dixit said.

The BJP, meanwhile, has not spoken on the issue of rising crimes in Delhi.
