Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was seen limping as he returned to the team hotel following his side’s thrilling five-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants on April 14. While the 43-year-old did not appear to be in pain, the limp was clearly visible and raised fresh concerns among fans and team officials. Dhoni played a crucial role in the match, which saw CSK snap a five-game losing streak in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. He made three dismissals behind the stumps and later scored an unbeaten 26 off just 11 balls to help his team chase down the 167-run target with three balls to spare.

The limp was noticeable during the fielding innings and again before the post-match presentation. Dhoni has been managing a long-standing knee issue and had undergone surgery after CSK’s title win in 2023. Despite the procedure, the problem has persisted and has led to him batting lower down the order in recent seasons. Earlier in the tournament, Dhoni returned as captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the season with an elbow fracture. His comeback began with an eight-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders. However, he bounced back in style against LSG and was named Player of the Match for the first time since 2019.

Speaking after the win, Dhoni acknowledged the difficult phase the team had been through. “It’s good to win a game. When you play a tournament like this, you want to win games. Unfortunately the earlier matches didn’t go our way for whatever reasons. There can be lots of reasons. It’s good to have a win on our side. It gives confidence to the whole team and helps us improve in areas we want to improve,” Dhoni said.
He added that cricket becomes tougher when results are not going your way and described the win as hard-fought.
Despite the win, CSK remain at the bottom of the IPL points table, just behind Sunrisers Hyderabad. With a few games left in the season, the team and fans will hope Dhoni’s injury is not serious as they aim to keep their playoff hopes alive.
