Welcome to Sportstar’s Highlights of the IPL 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Five runs needed off the last! It’s Avesh Khan with the final over. A couple of singles. Three off four balls. FOUR! AND DUBE WINS IT FOR THE CHENNAI SUPER KINGS!
24 needed off the last two. Shardul with the penultimate over and Dube flicks it past short third for a FOUR! Akash Deep dives prematurely and misses the ball. NO BALL AND A SIX! Is that the match?! Dube smacks the ball over backward square leg. DROPPED! Dhoni tries to clear covers but Bishnoi is there. However, the spinner fluffs it! FOUR! Dhoni sends the full toss towards mid-wicket for a boundary!
Avesh continues. Luck is on Dhoni’s side! He swings and an edge takes the ball past short third for a FOUR! That must have hurt! Dube smacks it hard straight at Avesh, who seems to have copped a niggle on his hand.
Shardul with his third over as the umpires bring in a new ball. FOUR! Dube covers it well and finds the gap to score a boundary. Couple of wides and then a dot ball. SIX! Dhoni hits a one-handed maximum over square leg! Is it on? Can he finish it off for CSK!?
Avesh Khan returns for his second over and bowls a wide ball. Dhoni is out in the middle and the crowd at the Ekana, mostly clad in yellow, goes berserk. FOUR! Dhoni clubs it past the mid off fielder and finds the ropes. FOUR! A deft flick as Dhoni’s shot has enough to be wide of Pant and race for a boundary.
Digvesh bowling out now. The squeeze is well and truly on and CSK needs to accelerate if it wants to get a win. The current rate is close to eight but the asking rate is now flirting with the 10-run mark. Dube stays on as Pant’s stumping attempt sees no result, the batter had grounded his feet on time. OUT! A wicket and just two runs from the over. Shankar goes for the biggie and instead mistimes it to hole out to backward point.
Shankar 17 (20) c Avesh b Digvesh
Markram bowling out. Great spell from the South African all-rounder as he gives away just five runs from his final over.
Looks like LSG has taken a punt on the last ball of the previous delivery which caught Vijay Shankar’s pads. And that’s umpires call! Close one!
Bishnoi with his third over. GONE! Jadeja is out! He was always looking a bit unsure of his shots as he holes out to Markram at long on!

Four!! Bishnoi into the attack. Short first up, Rachin pulls it down the ground and beats both long on and long off. Cuts a shorter one to point for a single. Dropped!! Tripathi doesn’t read the spin, gets a top edge off his slog but Samad puts down an easy chance running in from long off. Eight from the over.
Digvesh to Rachin. Full on off, swept to the fielder at deep midwicket for a single. Four!! Tripathi brings out the sweep and clears the short fine leg fielder to pick up a boundary. Swept again, not the best timing so he’ll pick up just one.

Purple Cap, IPL 2025: Here is the list of highest wicket-takers during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings on April 14.

Samad 20 (11) run out (Dhoni)
Dhoni again! Pant sends the ball high up in the air and Dhoni calls it. The experienced custodian behind the stumps takes the catch comfortably.
Pant 63 (49) c Dhoni b Pathirana

Khaleel Ahmed returns. And the batters start with a two. SIX! Pant continues to find the big shots as he sends Khaleel’s delivery over long on for a big one! DROPPED! It’s debutant Shaik Rasheed who has to run towards the falling ball and his effort doesn’t bear fruit as Pant stays on. Next ball, Samad smashes it for a SIX to bring up a 50-run partnership between Pant and himself.
Pathirana with his third and he begins with a wide. And SIX! Pant whips it over mid-wicket for a maximum with great ease, using the pace on the ball to great effect. SMACK! Pant hits a one-handed pull shot and the ball is deposited over deep square leg. With this, his fifty comes up. CLOSE! Pant’s miscued shot falls just short in front of Tripathi but a direct hit from him would have sent the batter back to the hut.
Noor bowling out. Close! The spinner almost gets Pant lbw but the umpire isn’t interested in it. Just three runs from it and Noor concedes 13 from his four overs.
Pathirana with his second over. Pant tries to pull the Sri Lankan pacer but fails to middle it cleanly. SIX! Samad picks the bones out of that Pathirana bowler and sends it sailing over the covers.
Noor with the ball and almost skittles Pant’s stumps with a delivery that’s right in the blockhole. Just two runs from it, another brilliant over from the spinner.
JADEJA STRIKES AGAIN! The tweaker traps Badoni lbw and the umpire raises his finger. However, the batter takes the review. NOT OUT! That’s another reprieve for the right-handed batter as the ball hits his glove first. Third time lucky for CSK! Badoni steps way out of his crease to attack Jadeja’s delivery and it’s an easy stumping for Dhoni.
Badoni 22 (17) st Dhoni
Abdul Samad is the newest batter at the crease.
Matheesha Pathirana is brought into the attack and he is welcomed by a smashing cover drive by Pant for a FOUR! Next ball, at the stumps and Pant defends it on the front foot. NO BALL! That seemed the end of Badoni’s stay at the crease. He half-heartedly plays a wider ball and he holes out to deep third. But, the delivery is above the batter’s shoulder and he stays on.
Overton replaces Jadeja and bowls a slower ball quite wide of Badoni’s off stump. A dot ball. Dhoni misfields and a single is taken by the batters. SIX! Wider ball but this time Badoni connects and sends it over point for a maximum! ANOTHER SIX! A shorter delivery, almost drifting down leg, and Badoni swivels to smack it over backward square leg for a maximum!
Noor returns. Some tight bowling from the tweaker, conceding just three singles so far. DROPPED! Pant tries to cut but there’s a big edge. However, the ball hits Dhoni’s fingers and goes away.
Jadeja with his second. Four!! Full and wide outside off to Pant. He gets an inside edge on the sweep that runs through Dhoni’s legs for four. WICKET!! A quicker one on a length, beats Marsh’s slog and crashes into middle stump.

Full and wide outside off, some movement away from the southpaw. Four!! Pooran looks to go big on the legside, the top edge flies over short fine leg and runs away to the boundary for four. Short of length outside off, Pooran misses his waft. Beaten on the outside edge again.
Anshul Kamboj from the other end. Nicholas Pooran in at 3. Kamboj to Marsh, swinging away from a length outside off, left alone by Marsh. Same ball, left alone again. A touch fuller from Kamboj, Marsh takes a stride forward and defends to the offside. Pushes one to mid on and scampers across from a single. Back of a length outside off to Pooran, left alone.
Khaleel Ahmed with the new ball. Aiden Markram and Mitch Marsh open for LSG. Angles one into the right hander from over the wicket, defended back solidly. Moving away from the batter, Markram misses his waft outside off. Four!! A touch short this time, punched off the backfoot through cover for a boundary. Rachin with an excellent effort and backward point restricts Markram’s guide through the off side to two runs. WICKET!! Full moving away from legstump, Markram gets a leading edge that flies over the infield. Tripathi does brilliantly well to run backward and complete a diving effort.

“There is a chance of dew here and it could get better to bat later. We haven’t been doing well but its important to find the right temperament. Shaik Rasheed replaces Devon Conway and Jamie Overton replaces R. Ashwin,” says MS Dhoni
“Might be a little hard to bat in the first innings. Important to not give a team like CSK a chance. Marsh replaces Himmat,” says Rishabh Pant.
The pitch is a mixture of red and black soil. It could be a little two-paced, reckons Michael Clarke. It will be conducive to bat with the new ball and could slow down as the game progresses.
