Lifeline of Cricket
Chennai Super Kings ended a run of five straight defeats in the Indian Premier League 2025 season. The Super Kings, who had won their opening game of the season against Mumbai Indians, saw results go against their way. However, they have now sealed a 5-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 30 of the IPL 2025 season at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, The win sees CSK remain bottom of the pile with 2 wins and 5 defeats from 7 games. Meanwhile, LSG suffered their third defeat of the season from 7 matches and remained 4th in the IPL 2025 standings.
The match in Lucknow saw LSG score 166/7 in 20 overs. Rishabh Pant finally came to life in IPL 2025 after a string of disappointing scores. He smashed a solid 63 runs that required work which came off 49 balls. Cameos from Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, and Abdul Samad helped LSG get past 160. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja claimed 2/24 from 3 overs.
In response, CSK sealed a win in 19.3 overs. Shaik Rasheed and Sachin Ravindra gave CSK a good start, adding 52 runs. CSK were reduced to 111/5 at one stage before Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni sealed the deal. Dube scored an unbeaten 43 from 37 balls, whereas Dhoni played a blinder. Ravi Bishnoi took 2/18 from 3 overs, whereas Digvesh Singh Rathi bowled well, claiming 1/23 from his 4 overs.
Here are three heroes and 3 zeroes from the LSG vs CSK contest held in Lucknow.
Heroes
Noor Ahmad: A splendid performance from the Purple Cap holder helped CSK. Noor was exceptional with the ball. He didn’t pick any wickets but conceded just 13 runs from his 4 overs, stalling LSG. He conceded at 3.20 runs an over. Noor was introduced in the 9th over, and he gave away just 5 runs. In his 2nd over, only three runs were given. He bowled the 15th over next and bowled 4 dots, and conceded 2 singles. He made Pant get stuck on the crease, conceding just 3 runs in his final over,r which was LSG’s 17th. Noor bowled 13 dot balls in the contest versus LSG, delivering a match-winning show.
Anshul Kamboj: The Ranji Trophy star bowled three crucial overs and conceded just 20 runs in the process. Notably, Kamboj got the massive wicket of Nicholas Pooran, who suffered a rare failure this season. As per ESPNcricinfo, Kamboj bowled a fuller ball angling into Pooran who tried to swing across the line and missed connecting. The appeal was turned down before CSK got rewarded by taking a review. Kamboj bowled 50% of his balls as dots (9) and conceded 2 fours and a six in this clash. The wicket of Pooran hurt LSG and Kamboj deserves praise for the same.
MS Dhoni: Finally credit to MS Dhoni for coming into life and showing why he is a shrewd customer. He took the review when Pooran was not given leg before by the umpire off Kamboj’s bowling. Another good decision Dhoni and the team management made was to drop R Ashwin from the starting XI. Ashwin was poor in CSK’s games prior to this contest. Dhoni also added his numbers behind the stumps by getting Pant caught and stumping Badoni, And then with the bat, he delivered. This was vintage Dhoni, who smashed 26* runs from 11 balls and helped CSK win. He hit 4 fours and a six, striking the ball at 236.36. At 43, Dhoni is showing that he can still be a force.
Zeroes
Shardul Thakur: A poor performance from Shardul Thakur in this match helped CSK win and LSG lose. The hosts were very much in the game, with CSK stranded at 111/5 after 15 overs. The 17th over bowled by Shardul saw CSK score 13 runs. Despite a decent start, where he conceded 5 runs off 4 balls, he bowled two wides and conceded a six to finish. Avesh Khan then bowled a brilliant 18th over (7 runs) before Shardul lost the plot. He gave away a four off the first ball and then bowled a no-ball, which was also spanked for a six by Dube. Both balls were full tosses. He ended the over by giving away 19 runs. Thakur bowled 4 overs and conceded 56 runs, conceding at 14. He was smashed for 8 fours and 2 sixes in this clash.
Rahul Tripathi: The former KKR and SRH batter has been abysmal this season, and he wasted another chance to prove his mettle. He came in when CSK were 52/1, and then a struggle followed. He was given a lifeline when Abdul Samad dropped him, but the player failed to make it count. He was out shortly thereafter, failing to make any sort of impetus for his side. In the 9th over of CSK’s innings, Tripathi tried to go big and hit the ball straight back to Ravi Bishnoi. He was nowhere near the pitch of the ball, and all he did was chip the same. He was out for 9 runs off 10 balls, reducing CSK to 76/3.
Rishabh Pant: The LSG skipper may have scored a knock of 63 runs from 49 balls, but it was a labored effort. Pant managed only 6 runs off 15 balls by Noor. He also scored 12 runs off 8 balls bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. He was pretty much ineffective against CSK’s two left-arm spinners, which also resulted in slowing LSG’s innings. Pant also made a blunder by robbing an over of Bishnoi, who had conceded just 18 off his 3 overs. The ploy to give Shardul his 4th and not Bishnoi hurt LSG. This was a poor decision from Pant.
