LUCKNOW: Panic gripped the Fakharpur region on Sunday morning after a two-year-old girl was reportedly dragged away by a wolf from her home’s verandah in Kandouli village, located along the Saryu river belt. The horrifying incident occurred around 5 a.m., reviving fears among locals nearly 20 days after the area had last witnessed wolf sightings.According to police and forest officials, Shanvi, daughter of Rakesh Yadav, was asleep in the verandah while her parents were feeding cattle nearby. Suddenly, a wolf pounced on the child, clamped her in its jaws, and fled towards the nearby forest. The family raised an alarm and chased the animal, but it disappeared into the dense undergrowth in the darkness.As dawn broke, villagers discovered blood stains and pieces of flesh a short distance from the house, intensifying fears that the child had been fatally mauled. The Forest Department, Kaiserganj police, and dozens of local villagers immediately launched a coordinated search operation.DFO Ram Singh Yadav said that a special team rushed to the site upon receiving information, and drones are being deployed to trace the predator’s movement in the area. A massive combing operation is underway, but the missing child has not yet been found at the time of reporting.The incident has triggered widespread panic in nearby villages, with locals demanding stronger forest patrols and immediate steps to curb the rising wolf menace in the Saryu riverine region.
